Open document

This inspection report reviews how the CPS handles serious youth crime and identifies recommendations, issues to address and examples of good practice.

The inspection aimed to assess whether:

  • the CPS’s handling of serious youth casework is efficient and effective
  • there is a high standard of legal decision-making in serious youth cases
  • the CPS is following its youth policy in terms of decision-making and case handling
  • policy and guidance supports the effective prosecution of youth crime.

The inspection examined 280 files, 20 from each of the 14 CPS Areas.
