Announcement of appointment of Stephen Parkinson as the new DPP
Following the announcement of appointment of Stephen Parkinson as DPP, Andrew Cayley said
“The Director of Public Prosecutions has a central and fundamental role in the English and Welsh criminal justice system. Stephen Parkinson is a most distinguished and experienced legal leader and criminal practitioner. He will need to bring all his knowledge and experience to bear in enhancing CPS relations with their key stakeholders, including the police and the court service. He will also need to deliver on the improved offer of service for victims of crime.
“Stephen Parkinson inherits a strong and augmented national prosecuting authority. Under Max Hill KC the CPS has been very well led indeed including during the challenging period of the pandemic. Many of the challenges of that period still remain in the system. I express my gratitude to Max for the levels of co-operation and openness the inspectorate has enjoyed with the CPS during his leadership. We wish Max every success in his future endeavours as he steps down from his role as the DPP.”
