This report follows up on the ‘state of the nation’ report, published in January 2021, which outlined how the COVID-19 pandemic had severely disrupted services across the CJS (Criminal Justice System).
A joint inspection by HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) and HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) found that a lack of collaboration between the police and prosecutors has led to delays and poor communication with victims.
As part of our Area Inspection Programme, we are assessing all 14 CPS Areas against a consistent inspection framework. Each Area will be subject to a baseline inspection and follow-up inspection within a three-year period.
